Indications
- Osteoarthritis (OA)
- Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)
- Ankylosing spondylitis
- Acute gouty arthritis
- Moderate pain associated with dental surgery
Pharmacology
- Orally active cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) specific inhibitor
- Inhibition of COX-2 decreases pain, inflammation, and fever
- Dose-dependent inhibition of COX-2 without inhibition of COX-1 at clinical doses up to 150 mg daily
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended doses for different conditions
- Patients may require additional postoperative analgesia
- Shortest duration and lowest effective daily dose should be used to minimize cardiovascular risks
Interaction with Medicine
- Effect on oral anticoagulants
- Potential reduction of effect of diuretics and antihypertensive drugs
- Concomitant use with acetylsalicylic acid at low doses for cardiovascular prophylaxis
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
- Active peptic ulceration or active gastrointestinal bleeding
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Severe hepatic dysfunction
- Estimated renal creatinine clearance <30 ml/min
- Children and adolescents under 16 years of age
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Congestive heart failure
- Established ischaemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, and/or cerebrovascular disease

Precautions & Warnings
- Caution advised with NSAID treatment in high-risk patients
- Considering cardiovascular risk factors before treatment
- Monitoring renal function in patients at risk
- Caution in patients with cardiac failure, left ventricular dysfunction, or hypertension
- Monitoring liver function and discontinuing in case of hepatic insufficiency or abnormal liver function tests
- Discontinuation at the first appearance of hypersensitivity signs
- Potential masking of fever and inflammation
- Exercise caution when co-administering with warfarin or other oral anticoagulants

- No significant toxicity observed at specified doses
