Pharmacology

  • Potent, orally active COX-2 specific inhibitor
  • Inhibition of COX-2 decreases clinical signs and symptoms
  • Selective inhibition of COX-2 by etoricoxib
  • Decreased potential for gastrointestinal toxicity and effects on platelet aggregation

Dosage & Administration

  • Recommended doses for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute gouty arthritis, and postoperative dental surgery pain
  • Shortest duration and lowest effective daily dose should be used

Precautions & Warnings

  • Caution in patients at risk of gastrointestinal complication with NSAIDs
  • Caution in patients with cardiovascular risk factors
  • Reduction in prostaglandin formation may impair renal function
  • Caution in patients with history of cardiac failure, left ventricular dysfunction, hypertension, or pre-existing edema
  • Monitoring of renal and liver function
  • Discontinue at the first appearance of hypersensitivity
  • May mask fever and other signs of inflammation
  • Exercise caution when co-administering with warfarin or other oral anticoagulants

Overdose Effects

  • Administration of single doses up to 500 mg and multiple doses up to 150 mg/day did not result in significant toxicity
  • Usual supportive measures recommended in case of overdose
