Indications
- Symptomatic relief of Osteoarthritis (OA)
- Symptomatic relief of Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)
- Symptomatic relief of Ankylosing spondylitis
- Symptomatic relief of pain and signs of inflammation associated with acute gouty arthritis
- Short-term treatment of moderate pain associated with dental surgery
Pharmacology
- Potent, orally active cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) specific inhibitor
- Inhibition of COX-2 without inhibition of COX-1
- Decreases clinical signs and symptoms with decreased potential for GI toxicity
- Produced dose-dependent inhibition of COX-2 without inhibition of COX-1 at doses up to 150 mg daily
- Did not inhibit gastric prostaglandin synthesis
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended doses for Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, Acute gouty arthritis, and postoperative dental surgery pain
- Consideration of cardiovascular risks with dose and duration of exposure
- Re-evaluation of patient's need for symptomatic relief and response to therapy
- Shortest duration possible and lowest effective daily dose usage
Interaction
- Interactions with oral anticoagulants, diuretics, ACE inhibitors, Angiotensin II Antagonists, Acetylsalicylic Acid, Ciclosporin, tacrolimus, and Lithium
- No specific interaction with food
- Take without regards to meals
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients
- Active peptic ulceration or active gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding
- Patients with specific allergic-type reactions
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Severe hepatic dysfunction
- Estimated renal creatinine clearance less than 30 ml/min
- Children and adolescents under 16 years of age
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Congestive heart failure
- Patients with persistently elevated blood pressure
- Established ischaemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, and/or cerebrovascular disease

Precautions & Warnings
- Caution with treatment of patients at risk of gastrointestinal complication with NSAIDs
- Careful consideration for treatment in patients with significant risk factors for cardiovascular events
- Monitoring of renal function in patients experiencing prostaglandin formation reduction
- Caution in patients with history of cardiac failure, left ventricular dysfunction, hypertension, edema, and liver dysfunction
- Monitoring and discontinuation in case of hepatic insufficiency or hypersensitivity
