Description
- Indicated for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and acute gouty arthritis
- Potent, orally active cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) specific inhibitor
- Dosage for different conditions and age groups
- Interactions with other medicines like oral anticoagulants, diuretics, ACE inhibitors, angiotensin II antagonists, acetylsalicylic acid, ciclosporin, tacrolimus, and lithium
- Contraindications for hypersensitivity, peptic ulceration, gastrointestinal bleeding, bronchospasm, pregnancy, lactation, severe hepatic dysfunction, estimated renal creatinine clearance, children and adolescents under 16, inflammatory bowel disease, congestive heart failure, hypertension, ischaemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, and cerebrovascular disease
- Side effects including palpitation, fatigue, influenza-like symptoms, ecchymosis, dry mouth, taste disturbance, atrial fibrillation, transient ischaemic attack, chest pain, flushing, cough, dyspnoea, anxiety, paraesthesia, myalgia, arthralgia, confusion, and hallucinations
- Not recommended for women attempting to conceive, excreted in the milk of lactating rats
- Caution advised for patients at risk of developing gastrointestinal complications with NSAIDs, patients with significant risk factors for cardiovascular events, reduction in prostaglandin formation, renal impairment, cardiac failure, left ventricular dysfunction, hypertension, edema, liver dysfunction, skin rash, mucosal lesions, hypersensitivity, and co-administration with warfarin or other oral anticoagulants
