  • Pain and signs of inflammation associated with acute gouty arthritis
  • Short-term treatment of moderate pain associated with dental surgery

Mode of Action

  • Potent, orally active cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) specific inhibitor

Pharmacology

  • Inhibition of COX-2 decreases clinical signs and symptoms with decreased potential for GI toxicity and effects on platelet aggregation

Dosage & Administration

  • Recommended doses for different conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute gouty arthritis, postoperative dental surgery pain
  • Consideration of cardiovascular risks with dose and duration of exposure

Interaction with Medicines

  • Oral anticoagulants
  • Diuretics, ACE inhibitors and Angiotensin II Antagonists
  • Acetylsalicylic Acid
  • Ciclosporin and tacrolimus
  • Lithium

Interaction with Food & Others

  • Take without regards to meals

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
  • Active peptic ulceration or active GI bleeding
  • Patients with specific allergic-type reactions

  • Estimated renal creatinine clearance
  • Children and adolescents under 16 years of age
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Patients with hypertension and uncontrolled blood pressure
  • Established ischaemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, and/or cerebrovascular disease

  • Monitoring of renal function
  • Caution in patients with history of cardiac failure, left ventricular dysfunction, hypertension, pre-existing edema
  • Monitoring for liver dysfunction signs
  • Discontinuation on appearance of hypersensitivity
  • Caution when co-administering with warfarin or other oral anticoagulants

Overdose Effects

  • Administration of single doses up to 500 mg and multiple doses up to 150 mg/day did not result in significant toxicity
  • Employment of supportive measures in case of overdose
