Description
Etonov 60 mg Tablet is a potent, orally active cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) specific inhibitor for the symptomatic relief of Osteoarthritis (OA), Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), Ankylosing spondylitis, the pain and signs of inflammation associated with acute gouty arthritis, and for the short-term treatment of moderate pain associated with dental surgery.

- Symptomatic relief of acute gouty arthritis

Pharmacology
Etoricoxib is a potent, orally active cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) specific inhibitor within, and significantly above, the clinical dose range. Selective inhibition of COX-2 by etoricoxib decreases signs and symptoms of pain, inflammation, and fever with decreased potential for GI toxicity and effects on platelet aggregation.
Dosage
- Osteoarthritis: 30 mg once daily, may increase to 60 mg once daily if needed
- Rheumatoid arthritis: 90 mg once daily
- Ankylosing spondylitis: 90 mg once daily
- Acute gouty arthritis: 120 mg once daily for 8 days
- Postoperative dental surgery pain: 90 mg once daily, limited to a maximum of 3 days
Interaction with medicine
- Oral anticoagulants: Increase in prothrombin time
- Diuretics, ACE inhibitors, Angiotensin II Antagonists: May reduce the effect
- Acetylsalicylic Acid: Can be used concomitantly at low doses for cardiovascular prophylaxis
- Ciclosporin and tacrolimus: May increase the nephrotoxic effect
- Lithium: Decreases lithium renal excretion and increases lithium plasma levels
Interaction with food others
Take without regards to meals
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
- Active peptic ulceration or active GI bleeding
- Patients who have experienced allergic-type reactions after taking NSAIDs including COX-2 inhibitors
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Severe hepatic dysfunction
- Estimated renal creatinine clearance <30 ml/min
- Children and adolescents under 16 years of age
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Congestive heart failure
- Hypertension not adequately controlled
- Established ischaemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, and/or cerebrovascular disease

Pregnancy lactation
Not recommended in women attempting to conceive. Not known if excreted in human milk. Women must not breastfeed while using Etoricoxib.
Precautions warnings
- Caution in patients at risk of GI complications with NSAIDs
- Caution in patients with significant risk factors for cardiovascular events
- Monitoring of renal function in patients with reduced renal blood flow
- Caution in patients with cardiac failure, left ventricular dysfunction, hypertension, pre-existing edema
- Monitoring of liver function; discontinue at signs of hepatic insufficiency
- Discontinue at first appearance of hypersensitivity
- May mask fever and other signs of inflammation
- Caution when co-administering with warfarin or other oral anticoagulants
Overdose effects
Single doses up to 500 mg and multiple doses up to 150 mg/day did not result in significant toxicity. Employ usual supportive measures in case of overdose.
