Indications
- Symptomatic relief of Osteoarthritis (OA)
- Symptomatic relief of Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)

- Short-term treatment of moderate pain associated with dental surgery
Pharmacology
Etoricoxib is a potent, orally active COX-2 specific inhibitor within the clinical dose range. It decreases clinical signs and symptoms with decreased potential for GI toxicity and effects on platelet aggregation.
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended doses for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute gouty arthritis, and postoperative dental surgery pain
- Adolescents over 16 years: adult dosages apply
Interaction
- Interaction with oral anticoagulants
- Interaction with diuretics, ACE inhibitors, and Angiotensin II Antagonists
- Concomitant use with acetylsalicylic acid for cardiovascular prophylaxis
- Potential interaction with ciclosporin, tacrolimus, and lithium
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
- Active peptic ulceration or GI bleeding
- History of allergic-type reactions after taking acetylsalicylic acid or NSAIDs
- Pregnancy, lactation, severe hepatic dysfunction, estimated renal creatinine clearance <30 ml/min, inflammatory bowel disease, congestive heart failure, uncontrolled hypertension, established ischaemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, and/or cerebrovascular disease
- Children and adolescents under 16 years of age

Pregnancy & Lactation
Etoricoxib is not recommended in women attempting to conceive. It is excreted in the milk of lactating rats and must not be used during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution with patients at high risk of developing GI complications with NSAIDs
- Careful consideration for patients with significant risk factors for cardiovascular events
- Monitoring of renal function for patients with impaired renal function
- Caution in patients with a history of cardiac failure, left ventricular dysfunction, or hypertension
- Monitoring of liver function, discontinuation at signs of liver dysfunction, and hypersensitivity
- Potential impact on fever and inflammation signs when co-administered with warfarin or other oral anticoagulants
Overdose Effects
Up to 500 mg single dose and 150 mg/day for 21 days did not result in significant toxicity. Employ supportive measures in the event of overdose.
