Product Description
- Indicated for Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Osteoarthritis, Gout, Acute non-articular rheumatism
- Indomethacin is an NSAID with antipyretic and analgesic effect
- Absorbed promptly following oral administration and peak plasma levels occur within 2 hours
- Excretion happens in urine and feces within 24-48 hours
- Proven value in the treatment of rheumatic diseases, relieves pain, reduces joint swelling and improves joint mobility
Dosage and Administration
- Available in 75 mg sustained-release capsule and 25 mg capsule
- Initial dose for Rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and osteoarthritis: 75 mg sustained-release capsule once daily, severe cases may require twice daily
- Control of acute attacks of gout: 75 mg sustained-release capsule twice daily
- For acute non-articular rheumatism: 1-2 sustained-release capsule daily according to severity
- Rheumatic diseases: 50-200 mg daily in divided doses
- Acute gout: 150-200 mg daily in divided doses
- Dysmenorrhea: up to 75 mg daily
Interaction
- May interact with anticoagulants, Lithium, diuretics, antihypertensive drugs, diflunisal, and sulfonylureas
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with ulcer, gastritis, active ulcerative colitis
- Should be used with caution in patients with a history of these disorders
- Contraindicated in previously hypersensitive patients
Side Effects
- Headaches, mild vertigo, and transient psychic disturbances
- Gastrointestinal reactions such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, epigastric and abdominal pain
- Administration with antacid and after meals can minimize frequency and severity of gastrointestinal reactions
Precautions and Warnings
- Use with caution in patients with psychiatric problems, epilepsy, or parkinsonism as it may aggravate these conditions
- Not recommended for pregnant women due to insufficient clinical studies
- Not normally given in neonates except when used to assist closure of a patent ductus arteriosus
