Description
- Metrocin is indicated for Rheumatoid arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, Osteoarthritis, Gout, Acute non-articular rheumatism (bursitis, synovitis, tendinitis).
- Indomethacin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that has strong anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic properties. It is absorbed promptly following oral administration and peak plasma levels occur within 2 hours. It has been proven to be of great value in the treatment of rheumatic diseases, relieving pain, reducing joint swelling, edema, and improving joint mobility.
DosageAndAdministration
- 75 mg sustained-release capsule: Initial dose is 75 mg sustained-release capsule once daily. Severe cases may require twice daily.
- 75 mg sustained-release capsule for acute attacks of gout: May control with a dose of 75 mg sustained-release capsule twice daily.
- 25 mg capsule for rheumatic diseases: 50-200 mg daily in divided doses.
- 25 mg capsule for acute gout: 150-200 mg daily in divided doses.
- 25 mg capsule for dysmenorrhea: up to 75 mg daily.
Interaction
- Interacts with anticoagulants, Lithium, diuretics, antihypertensive drugs, diflunisal, and sulfonylureas.
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with ulcer, gastritis, active ulcerative colitis. Use with caution in patients with a history of these disorders. Contraindicated in previously hypersensitive patients.
SideEffects
- Headaches, especially in the morning, mild vertigo, transient symptoms, transient mild psychic disturbances, gastrointestinal reactions like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, epigastric and abdominal pain. Administration after meals with an antacid may minimize the frequency and severity of these effects.
PrecautionsAndWarnings
- Use with caution in patients with psychiatric problems, epilepsy or parkinsonism. Not recommended for pregnant women. Not normally given to neonates except when used to assist closure of a patent ductus arteriosus.
