Description
- Anaflex is indicated for the relief of symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, juvenile arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis, acute gout, and primary dysmenorrhea & pain. It blocks COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes leading to decreased prostaglandin synthesis. It is available in enteric coated tablets, suspension, and gel forms. It interacts with ACE inhibitors, antacids, aspirin, diuretics, methotrexate, warfarin, and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI). It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to naproxen and for perioperative pain in coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. Common side effects include gastrointestinal discomfort, central nervous system effects, dermatological effects, cardiovascular effects, visual and hearing disturbances. Its use during pregnancy and lactation requires careful consideration. Long-term administration may have renal and hepatic effects. It belongs to the therapeutic class of drugs for osteoarthritis, drugs used for rheumatoid arthritis, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
