Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Naproxen
- Contraindicated for patients with asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs
- Contraindicated for treatment of perioperative pain in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery
Side Effects
- Gastrointestinal side effects: Heartburn, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, dyspepsia
- Central Nervous System side effects: Headache, vertigo, drowsiness
- Dermatological side effects: Pruritus (itching), purpura
- Cardiovascular side effects: Edema, palpitation
- Other side effects: Visual disturbances, hearing disturbances
Pregnancy & Lactation
- May have adverse effects on the fetus
- Causes a delay in parturition in animals
- Associated with premature closure of the ductus arteriosus and severe pulmonary hypertension in infants born to mothers taking Naproxen
- Excreted in small amounts in the breast milk for nursing mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Renal effects: May result in renal papillary necrosis and other abnormal renal pathology
- Renal effects: Reports of acute interstitial nephritis, hematuria, proteinuria, and occasionally nephrotic syndrome
- Renal effects: Caution in patients with impaired renal function
- Hepatic effects: Reports of moderate to severe jaundice
