Interaction
- ACE inhibitors diminishantihypertensive effect
- Antacids & Sucralfate delay absorption
- Aspirin increases adverse effects
- Diuretics reduce natriuretic effect
- Methotrexate enhances toxicity
- Warfarin increases risk of GI bleeding
- Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI) increases risk of GI bleeding
Contraindications
- known hypersensitivity to Naproxen
- asthma or allergic-type reactions to aspirin or other NSAIDs
- perioperative pain in coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery
Side Effects
- Gastrointestinal - heartburn, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea
- Central Nervous System - headache, vertigo, drowsiness
- Dermatological - itching, purpura
- Cardiovascular - edema, palpitation
- Others - visual disturbances, hearing disturbances
Pregnancy & Lactation
- adverse effect on fetus
- delay in parturition
- premature closure of ductus arteriosus
- severe pulmonary hypertension in infants
- excretion in breast milk
- potential harm to breast-fed infant
Precautions & Warnings
- renal effects - papillary necrosis, abnormal renal pathology, acute interstitial nephritis, hematuria, proteinuria
- hepatic effects - jaundice
- use with caution in patients with impaired renal function
- monitoring of serum creatinine and/or creatinine clearance
