Interaction
- ACE inhibitors diminish antihypertensive effect
- Antacids & Sucralfate delay absorption
- Aspirin increases adverse effects
- Diuretics reduce natriuretic effect of Furosemide and Thiazides
- Methotrexate enhances toxicity
- Warfarin increases risk of GI bleeding
- Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI) increase risk of GI bleeding
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Naproxen
- Asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs
- Perioperative pain in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery
Side Effects
- Gastrointestinal: Heartburn, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, dyspepsia
- Central Nervous System: Headache, vertigo, drowsiness
- Dermatological: Pruritus, purpura
- Cardiovascular: Edema, palpitation
- Others: Visual disturbances, hearing disturbances
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Adverse effect on fetus
- Causes delay in parturition
- Associated with premature closure of ductus arteriosus in infants
- Excreted in small amounts in breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Renal effects: Potential renal pathology
- Monitor serum creatinine and/or creatinine clearance
- Hepatic effects: Reports of jaundice
