Indications

Pharmacology

Dosage & Administration
- Should be taken with water

Interaction
- Diminishes antihypertensive effect of ACE inhibitors
- Delays the absorption of the product
- Increases adverse effects when taken with aspirin
- Reduces the natriuretic effect of diuretics
- Enhances the toxicity of Methotrexate
- Increases the risk of GI bleeding when taken with Warfarin and Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI)
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Naproxen
- Patients with asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions to aspirin or other NSAIDs
- Patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery
Side Effects
- Gastrointestinal effects: heartburn, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, dyspepsia
- Central Nervous System effects: headache, vertigo, drowsiness
- Dermatological effects: pruritus, purpura
- Cardiovascular effects: edema, palpitation
- Other effects: visual disturbances, hearing disturbances
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Adverse effects on fetus
- May cause delay in parturition
- Associated with premature closure of ductus arteriosus and severe pulmonary hypertension in infants
- Excreted in small amounts in breast milk
- Requires careful balancing of benefits and risks during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- May result in renal papillary necrosis and abnormal renal pathology with long-term administration
- Reports of acute interstitial nephritis, hematuria, proteinuria, and nephrotic syndrome
- Eliminated primarily by the kidneys
- Use with caution in patients with impaired renal function
- Monitoring of serum creatinine and/or creatinine clearance advised
- Reports of moderate to severe jaundice
