Indications

Dosage & Administration
- Oral administration with water after meals
- Dosage varies for different indications and age groups

Interaction
- Diminishes antihypertensive effect of ACE inhibitors
- Delays the absorption of the product by antacids & Sucralfate
- Increases adverse effects when taken with Aspirin
- Reduces the natriuretic effect of Diuretics
- Enhances the toxicity of Methotrexate
- Increases the risk of GI bleeding with Warfarin
- Increases the risk of GI bleeding with Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI)
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Naproxen
- Asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs
- Treatment of perioperative pain in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery
Side Effects
- Gastrointestinal effects: Heartburn, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, dyspepsia
- Central Nervous System effects: Headache, vertigo, drowsiness
- Dermatological effects: Pruritus, purpura
- Cardiovascular effects: Edema, palpitation
- Other effects: Visual disturbances, hearing disturbances
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Adverse effects on the fetus
- Causes a delay in parturition
- Associated with premature closure of the ductus arteriosus and severe pulmonary hypertension
- Excreted in small amounts in breast milk
- Balancing benefits to the mother against possible risks to the fetus
- Considered by some authorities to be too small to be harmful to a breast-fed infant
Precautions & Warnings
- Renal effects: Reports of renal papillary necrosis, abnormal renal pathology, acute interstitial nephritis, hematuria, proteinuria, and occasionally nephrotic syndrome
- Primarily eliminated by the kidneys
- Caution in patients with significantly impaired renal function
- Creatinine clearance monitoring is advised
- Hepatic effects: Reports of moderate to severe jaundice
