Indications

Pharmacology
- Mucolytic action by reducing viscosity of secretions
- Antioxidant properties by reacting with free radicals
- Serving as a precursor to glutathione
Dosage & Administration
- Effervescent tablet for adults and children above 6 years
- Effervescent granules for adults and children above 6 years
- Nebuliser solution for adults and children of different age groups
- Diagnostic bronchograms
- Nebulisation tent or croupette administration
- Direct instillation
Interaction
- Reduction of efficacy of certain antibiotics
- Increased level of certain antibiotics in tissues
- Increase in inhibitory effect of thrombocyte aggregation and vasodilation by nitroglycerine
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Acetylcysteine
- Contraindicated in patients suffering from phenylketonuria
Side Effects
- Severe immune reactions like anaphylactic shock and severe skin reaction
- Shortness of breath, upset stomach, bronchospasm
- Headache, increased heart rate, stomatitis, pruritus, urticaria, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fever
- Decrease in blood pressure, diarrhoea, noises in the ears

Precautions & Warnings
- Strict control for patients with bronchial asthma
- Suspension of treatment if bronchospasm occurs
- Caution in patients with a history of peptic ulcer
