Pharmacology
Blocks COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes leading to decreased prostaglandin synthesis
Dosage & Administration
- Should be taken with water
- Specific dosage for different indications
- Oral preparations should be taken after meals
- Naproxen Enteric Coated Tablet dosage for adults and children
- Naproxen Suspension dosage for children

Interaction
- ACE inhibitors diminish antihypertensive effect
- Antacids & Sucralfate delay absorption
- Aspirin increases adverse effects
- Diuretics reduce natriuretic effect of Furosemide and Thiazides
- Methotrexate enhances toxicity
- Warfarin increases risk of GI bleeding
- Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors increase risk of GI bleeding
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Naproxen
- Not to be used in patients who have experienced asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs
- Contraindicated for perioperative pain in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery
