Dosage & Administration

Interaction
- Diminish the antihypertensive effect of ACE inhibitors
- Delay the absorption of Naproxen by antacids & Sucralfate
- Increase adverse effects if combined with Aspirin
- Reduce the natriuretic effect of Diuretics
- Enhance the toxicity of Methotrexate
- Increase the risk of GI bleeding with Warfarin
- Increase the risk of GI bleeding with Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI)
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Naproxen
- History of asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs
- Treatment of perioperative pain in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Adverse effect on the fetus
- Associated with premature closure of the ductus arteriosus and severe pulmonary hypertension in infants born to mothers taking Naproxen
- Excreted in small amounts in the breast milk
- Recommended caution in the first and third trimesters
- Recommendation to avoid breastfeeding during Naproxen therapy
Precautions & Warnings
- Renal effects
- Reports of acute interstitial nephritis, hematuria, proteinuria
- Monitoring of serum creatinine and/or creatinine clearance
- Caution in patients with impaired renal function
- Caution in patients with creatinine clearance of less than 20ml/min
- Hepatic effects
- Reports of moderate to severe jaundice attributed to Naproxen
