Indications

  • Osteoarthritis

Pharmacology

  • Naproxen & Esomeprazole combination
  • Immediate release Esomeprazole Magnesium layer
  • Enteric-coated Naproxen core
  • Mechanism of action of Naproxen to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis
  • Proton pump inhibitor property of Esomeprazole to suppress gastric acid secretion

Dosage

  • Use lowest effective dose
  • Tablet strength options for different conditions and age groups

Administration

  • Take at least 30 minutes before meals
  • Do not split, chew, crush or dissolve the tablet

Interaction

  • Concomitant use of NSAIDs may reduce the antihypertensive effect of ACE inhibitors, diuretics & beta-blockers
  • Concomitant use with warfarin may increase risk of bleeding
  • Interference with absorption of drugs such as Ketoconazole, iron salts, and digoxin
  • Effect of high-fat food on absorption of naproxen & esomeprazole

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to any component of the tablet or substituted benzimidazoles
  • History of asthmay urticaria or other allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs
  • Use during the peri-operative period in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery

Side Effects

  • Decreased occurrence of gastric ulcers and upper gastrointestinal adverse events
  • Gastrointestinal side effects from Naproxen
  • Hypertension, cardiac failure, and oedema reported
