Description

Dosage
- Adults with normal hepatic function should take Pefloxcin 400 mg tablet 12 hourly with meals, while those with hepatic insufficiency may require readjusted doses. Duration of treatment varies depending on the condition being treated.
Pharmacology
- Pefloxcin is a synthetic antibacterial agent belonging to the fluoroquinolone group. It exerts its action by inhibiting the subunit-A of DNA gyrase (Topoisomerase II) and is bactericidal with broad-spectrum activity.
Interaction
- Concurrent administration of Nobac with antacids containing Aluminium and/or Magnesium Hydroxide gel should be avoided, as it reduces absorption of the medication.
Contraindications
- Pefloxacin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Quinolone, children under 15 years of age, pregnant and lactating mothers, patients with inborn glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, and those with a history of tendon lesion, tendonitis, or tendon rupture.
Side Effects
- Occasionally observed reactions include gastrointestinal disturbance, central nervous system disturbance, hypersensitivity reactions, myalgia and/or arthralgia, and tendonitis or rupture of the Achilles tendon.
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pefloxacin has been assigned to pregnancy category C by the FDA.
Precautions & Warnings
- Exposure to sunlight and ultraviolet radiation should be avoided during Nobac therapy due to the risk of photosensitivity reaction. Dosage readjustment is required in severe hepatic insufficiency, and patients should be informed of the possibility of pain in the Achilles tendon.
Therapeutic Class
- 4-Quinolone preparations
Storage Conditions
- Keep below 30°C temperature, away from light and moisture, and out of the reach of children.
