Dosage
- Standard dosage of 20 mg daily

- No established dosage recommendations for children and adolescents
Administration
- Tablets to be taken with a glass of water
- Preferable to take with or after a meal
Interaction
- Salicylate displacement and increased clearance
- Concurrent treatment with salicylate or other NSAIDs should be avoided
- Caution with concurrent methotrexate administration
- Potential decrease in renal clearance and increased plasma levels of lithium
- Avoid concurrent administration with K-sparing diuretics
- Attenuation of blood pressure-lowering effect of hydrochlorothiazide
- Potential attenuation of antihypertensive effects of alpha-adrenergic blockers and ACE-inhibitors
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the drug
- Induction of asthma, rhinitis, or urticaria by salicylates or other NSAIDs
- History of upper gastrointestinal tract diseases
Side Effects
- Gastrointestinal discomfort, dyspepsia, heartburn, nausea
- Dizziness, headache
- Constipation, diarrhea, stomatitis, gastritis, vomiting, ulcers
- Fatigue, sleep disturbances, dry mouth, vertigo
- Skin itching, erythema, rash, urticaria
- Increase in BUN or creatinine, edema
- Elevated liver enzyme activity
- Palpitations, visual disturbances, photosensitivity reaction
- Anemia, agranulocytosis, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia
- Hypersensitivity reactions, elevated blood pressure, hepatitis
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Avoidance of treatment during the third trimester of pregnancy
- Passage of a very small amount into breast milk
- No evidence of adverse reactions in breast-fed infants
Precautions & Warnings
- Inhibition of renal prostaglandin synthesis and potential undesirable effects on renal hemodynamics
- Inhibition of platelet aggregation and potential impact on hemostasis
- Careful monitoring for gastrointestinal disease and skin reactions
- Caution with patients with coagulation disorders or receiving drug therapy that interferes with hemostasis
- Ophthalmic evaluation for patients with visual disturbances
- Caution required when plasma albumin levels are markedly reduced
