Description
- Symptomatic treatment for Rheumatoid arthritis, Osteoarthritis, Arthrosis, Ankylosing spondylitis, Tendinitis, Bursitis, Periarthritis, Strains, Sprains, Gout
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
- Inhibits platelet aggregation
- Inhibits prostaglandin biosynthesis
- Scavenger for active oxygen at the site of inflammation
- Potent inhibitor of human metalloproteinases
- No mutagenic, carcinogenic, or teratogenic effects in animals
- Standard dosage of 20 mg daily for most indications
- 40 mg once daily for acute gout, followed by 20 mg once daily
- Early therapeutic effect with progressive increase in response over time
- Special dosage instructions for elderly patients and those with kidney or liver disease
- Tablets to be taken with a glass of water
- Preferable to take medicine during or immediately after a meal
- Interaction with salicylate, methotrexate, gold, penicillamine, probenecid, lithium, K-sparing diuretics, furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide, alpha-adrenergic blockers, ACE-inhibitors, centrally-acting alpha agonists, calcium channel blockers, atenolol, digitalis products, antacids, cimetidine, warfarin, phenprocoumon, oral antidiabetic drugs, low molecular weight heparin
- Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to the drug, salicylates, or other NSAIDs, and those with upper gastrointestinal tract diseases
- Mild and transient undesirable effects including gastric discomfort, dyspepsia, nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, itching, edema, increased liver enzyme activity, palpitations
- Increased frequency undesirable effects including ulcer, Gl-bleeding, sleep disturbances, fatigue, dry mouth, visual disturbances, anemia, hypertension, hepatitis
- Rare undesirable effects including Gl-perforation, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, vasculitis, agranulocytosis, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, dyspnea, angioedema
- Inhibitory effect on prostaglandin synthesis during late pregnancy, caution in third trimester and breastfeeding
- Inhibits renal prostaglandin synthesis, monitor renal and cardiac function, and salt and water balance
- Inhibits platelet aggregation, monitor coagulation disorders and hemostasis
- Close monitoring for symptoms of gastrointestinal disease, peptic ulceration, and skin reactions
- Ophthalmic evaluation recommended for patients with visual disturbances
- Caution required when plasma albumin levels are reduced
- May mask usual signs of infection, avoid in patients who dislike or do not tolerate milk products
- Not recommended for use in patients under 16 years of age
- Effects on ability to drive and use machines, caution in case of adverse events affecting driving or using machines
- No experience of acute overdosage, conventional measures for overdose treatment
