Description

Tufnil 200 mg Tablet is a potent inhibitor of cyclooxygenase enzyme, thus it inhibits the synthesis of important inflammatory mediators such as thromboxane (TX) B2 and prostaglandin (PG) E2. It is used for the treatment of acute migraine attacks, mild to moderate pain, and post-operative pain and fever. Tolfenamic acid belongs to the fenamate group and is a potent inhibitor of cyclooxygenase enzyme. It acts not only by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, but it also has direct antagonistic action on its receptors. Tufnil increases the rate of absorption with Metoclopramide and Magnesium hydroxide but decreases with Aluminium hydroxide. It also has interactions with anticoagulants, NSAIDs, loop diuretics, B-blockers, ACE Inhibitors, Lithium Methotrexate, cardiac glycosides, ACE inhibitors, Ciclosporin, Tacrolimus, and diuretics. It is contraindicated in cases of active gastro-intestinal bleeding, ulceration, heart failure, and history of gastro-intestinal issues related to NSAID therapy. Side effects include rare alveolitis, hepatic damage, pancreatitis, pulmonary eosinophilia, Stevens-johnson syndrome, angioedema, blood disorder, depression, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, dysuria, euphoria, gastrointestinal bleeding, discomfort, hallucination, insomnia, malaise, nausea, hearing disturbances, rash, visual disturbances, vertigo, raised blood pressure. Tufnil is not recommended during pregnancy and should be avoided during breastfeeding. Precautions should be taken for patients with asthma, bleeding disorders, cardiovascular diseases, peptic ulceration, hypertension, liver infection, and renal function impairment. Storage conditions require it to be kept in a cool and dry place, away from light and out of the reach of children.
