Bacaid 10 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• spasticity resulting from multiple sclerosis
• flexor spasms and concomitant pain, clonus and muscular rigidity
• skeletal muscle spasm resulting from rheumatic disorders
• spinal cord injuries and other spinal cord diseases
• cerebrovascular accidents or neoplastic or degenerative brain disease

Pharmacology

• inhibits monosynaptic and polysynaptic reflexes at the spinal level
• stimulates GABA receptors
• inhibits release of glutamate and aspartate
• produces CNS depression
• exerts an antinociceptive effect

Dosage & Administration

• dosage for adults and children over 10 years
• dosage for children under 10 years
• gradually increased dosage
• maximum daily dosage

Interaction

• increased sedation with central nervous system agents, alcohol, or synthetic opiates
• increased fall in blood pressure with antihypertensives
• potentiation of effects with tricyclic antidepressants
• reports of mental confusion, hallucinations, headaches, nausea, and agitation with Parkinson's medications
• increased CNS depressant effects with MAO inhibitors
• exercising caution with magnesium sulphate or other neuromuscular blocking agents

Contraindications

• hypersensitivity to any component of this product

Side Effects

• transient drowsiness
• daytime sedation
• dizziness
• weakness
• fatigue
• adverse reactions in different body systems such as central nervous, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and others

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy category B3
• safe use during pregnancy not established
• excretion in breast milk
• administration to pregnant women only when benefits outweigh possible hazards

Precautions & Warnings

• lower doses for patients with impaired renal function or undergoing chronic haemodialysis
• closely monitor patients with psychotic disorders, schizophrenia, depressive or manic disorders, or confusional states
• use with caution in patients with epilepsy, muscle spasticity, peptic ulcers, cerebrovascular diseases, or hepatic, renal, or respiratory failure
• careful monitoring of respiratory and cardiovascular function
• improvement of neurogenic disturbances affecting bladder emptying
• monitoring of hepatic diseases or diabetes mellitus
• appropriate laboratory tests for underlying diseases

Overdose Effects

• gastric lavage in case of severe overdose
