Description
- Indicated for spasticity resulting from multiple sclerosis
- Indicated for flexor spasms, concomitant pain, clonus, and muscular rigidity
- Indicated for skeletal muscle spasm resulting from rheumatic disorders
- Indicated for spinal cord injuries and other spinal cord diseases
- Indicated for cerebrovascular accidents or neoplastic or degenerative brain disease
- Inhibits both monosynaptic and polysynaptic reflexes at the spinal level by stimulating the GABA receptors
- Inhibits the release of glutamate and aspartate
- May produce CNS depression
- Exerts antinociceptive effect
- Adult & children over 10 years: 5 mg 3 times daily, preferably with or after food, gradually increased
- Max dosage: 100 mg daily
- Children <10 years: Treatment initiated with 2.5 mg given 4 times daily then raised according to requirement
- Increased sedation may occur if taken with agents acting on the central nervous system, alcohol, or synthetic opiates
- Combined treatment with antihypertensives likely to increase fall in blood pressure
- Caution advised when taken with tricyclic antidepressants
- Caution advised in patients with Parkinson's disease receiving treatment with Beklo and levodopa and carbidopa
- Concurrent use of MAO inhibitors may result in increased CNS depressant effects
- Caution advised when administering with magnesium sulphate or other neuromuscular blocking agents
- Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component of this product
- Common adverse reactions: transient drowsiness, daytime sedation, dizziness, weakness, fatigue
- Adverse reactions may include headache, insomnia, euphoria, depression, confusion, hallucinations, paraesthesia, nightmares, muscle pain, etc.
- Pregnancy category B3. Safe use during pregnancy not established
- Excreted in breast milk, with minimal expected effect on the infant
- Lower doses should be used for patients with impaired renal function or undergoing chronic haemodialysis
- Treat cautiously in patients suffering from spasticity and psychotic disorders, schizophrenia, depressive or manic disorders
- Use with caution in patients with epilepsy and muscle spasticity
- Use with caution in patients with peptic ulcers, cerebrovascular diseases, or hepatic, renal or respiratory failure
- Careful monitoring of respiratory and cardiovascular function is essential
- Neurogenic disturbances affecting bladder emptying may improve with use
- Appropriate laboratory tests should be performed periodically in patients with hepatic diseases or diabetes mellitus
- Gastric lavage is important in case of severe overdose
