Indications
- spasticity resulting from multiple sclerosis
- flexor spasms and concomitant pain, clonus and muscular rigidity
- skeletal muscle spasm resulting from rheumatic disorders
- spinal cord injuries and other spinal cord diseases
- cerebrovascular accidents or neoplastic or degenerative brain disease
Pharmacology
- inhibits monosynaptic and polysynaptic reflexes
- stimulates GABA receptors
- inhibits release of glutamate and aspartate
- produces CNS depression
- exerts antinociceptive effect
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage for adults & children over 10 years
- Dosage for children <10 years
- Increased gradually
- Preferably with or after food
- Maximum daily dosage: 100 mg
- Maintenance doses for different age groups
Interaction
- Increased sedation with CNS acting agents
- Enhanced fall in blood pressure with antihypertensives
- Potentiation of effects with tricyclic antidepressants
- Reports of mental confusion with Parkinson's medication
- CNS depressant effects with MAO inhibitors
- Caution with magnesium sulphate or neuromuscular blocking agents

- Hypersensitivity to any component of the product

- Monitoring of respiratory and cardiovascular function
- Potential improvements and cautions for neurogenic disturbances
- Limited benefit for stroke patients
- Performing periodic laboratory tests for hepatic diseases or diabetes mellitus
