Usability features

  • Once daily dosage for adults
  • Can be taken with or without food
  • Suitable for primary hypercholesterolaemia, combined hyperlipidaemia, familial hypercholesterolaemia, and prevention of cardiovascular events

Dosage administration

  • Adults: Usually 10 mg once daily, maximum 80 mg once daily
  • Children (10-18 years): Initially 10 mg once daily, increased if necessary to max. 20 mg once daily
  • Adjust dose according to patient's response

Interaction

  • Increased risk of myopathy with concurrent administration of certain drugs
  • Plasma concentrations affected when coadministered with antacid, colestipol, digoxin, erythromycin, oral contraceptives, and warfarin

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to any component of the medication
  • Active liver disease
  • Unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases
  • History of serious adverse reaction to prior administration of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors

  • No clinically significant difference in LDL-C reduction between men and women
  • Renal disease has no influence on plasma concentrations or LDL-C reduction
  • Hemodialysis not expected to significantly enhance clearance of Aztor
  • Markedly increased plasma concentrations in patients with chronic alcoholic liver disease
