Usability features
- Once daily dosage for adults
- Can be taken with or without food
- Suitable for primary hypercholesterolaemia, combined hyperlipidaemia, familial hypercholesterolaemia, and prevention of cardiovascular events
Dosage administration
- Adults: Usually 10 mg once daily, maximum 80 mg once daily
- Children (10-18 years): Initially 10 mg once daily, increased if necessary to max. 20 mg once daily
- Adjust dose according to patient's response
Interaction
- Increased risk of myopathy with concurrent administration of certain drugs
- Plasma concentrations affected when coadministered with antacid, colestipol, digoxin, erythromycin, oral contraceptives, and warfarin
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the medication
- Active liver disease
- Unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases
- History of serious adverse reaction to prior administration of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors

Precautions warnings
- Liver function tests recommended before initiation of treatment
- Discontinue therapy if markedly elevated CPK levels occur or myopathy is diagnosed or suspected
Use in special populations
- Higher plasma concentrations in healthy elderly subjects
- No clinically significant difference in LDL-C reduction between men and women
- Renal disease has no influence on plasma concentrations or LDL-C reduction
- Hemodialysis not expected to significantly enhance clearance of Aztor
- Markedly increased plasma concentrations in patients with chronic alcoholic liver disease
