Indications
- spasticity resulting from multiple sclerosis
- flexor spasms and concomitant pain, clonus and muscular rigidity
- skeletal muscle spasm resulting from rheumatic disorders
- spinal cord injuries and other spinal cord diseases
- cerebrovascular accidents or neoplastic or degenerative brain disease
Pharmacology
- Inhibition of monosynaptic and polysynaptic reflexes at the spinal level
- Stimulation of GABA receptors
- Inhibition of glutamate and aspartate release
- Central nervous system depression
- Antinociceptive effect
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage for adults & children over 10 years
- Gradual increase in dosage
- Maximum daily dosage of 100 mg
- Dosage for children under 10 years
- Different daily maintenance doses based on age
Interaction
- Increased sedation when taken with CNS agents, alcohol, or synthetic opiates
- Increased fall in blood pressure when combined with antihypertensives
- Potentiation of pharmacological effects when taken with tricyclic antidepressants
- Reports of mental confusion, hallucinations, and agitation in Parkinson's patients
- Possible increased CNS depressant effects when taken with MAO inhibitors
- Caution advised when combined with magnesium sulfate or neuromuscular blocking agents
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the product
Side Effects
- Transient drowsiness
- Daytime sedation

- Weakness and fatigue
- Adverse reactions in the central nervous system, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and other systems
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy category B3
- Use only if potential benefits outweigh possible hazards
- Excretion in breast milk with quantities not expected to cause undesirable effects
Precautions & Warnings
- Lower doses for patients with impaired renal function or undergoing chronic haemodialysis
- Cautious treatment for patients with psychotic disorders, schizophrenia, depressive or manic disorders
- Close monitoring for exacerbations of associated disorders
- Appropriate supervision for patients with epilepsy and muscle spasticity
- Caution in patients with peptic ulcers, cerebrovascular diseases, or hepatic, renal or respiratory failure
- Careful monitoring of respiratory and cardiovascular function
- Caution in patients with preexisting sphincter hypertonia
- Ineffectiveness in benefiting patients with stroke
- Appropriate laboratory tests for patients with hepatic diseases or diabetes mellitus
Overdose Effects
- Importance of gastric lavage in case of severe overdose
