Indications
- Relief of muscle spasm
- Treatment of acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions
- Improvement in pain, tenderness, and limitation of motion
Pharmacology
- Centrally-acting skeletal muscle relaxant
- Structurally related to tricyclic antidepressants
- Influences both the α and δ motor systems
Dosage & Administration
- Usual dose is 5-10 mg three times daily
- Maximum daily dose is 60 mg
- Caution in elderly and hepatic impairment
- Not recommended for pediatric use
Interaction
- Life-threatening interactions with MAO inhibitors
- Enhances effects of alcohol, barbiturates, and other CNS depressants
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component
- Concomitant use of MAO inhibitors
- Acute recovery phase of myocardial infarction
- Patients with arrhythmias, heart block, or congestive heart failure
