Description
- Chlorpheniramine Maleate antihistamine
- Used for Urticaria, sensitivity reactions, angioneurotic edema, vasomotor rhinitis, cough, common cold, motion sickness and other allergic conditions
- Potent histamine H1-receptor blocking agent
- Less sedating than promethazine
- Adult dosage: 4 mg every 4-6 hours, maximum 24 mg daily
- Child dosage: 1-2 mg every 4-6 hours, maximum 12 mg daily (age-dependent)
- Incompatible with calcium chloride, kanamycin sulfate, noradrenaline acid tartrate, pentobarbital sodium, and meglumine adipiodone
- Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to chlorpheniramine and in newborn or premature infants
- Possible side effects: drowsiness, dizziness, muscular weakness, gastrointestinal upset
- Not recommended for use in lactating mothers and during the first trimester of pregnancy
- Caution in patients with glaucoma and prostatic hypertrophy
- Possible overdose effects: CNS depression, CNS stimulation, tinnitus, blurred vision, dizziness, hypotension, atropine-like signs and symptoms
- Belongs to the therapeutic class of sedating antihistamines
- Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light, below 25°C
