- Heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia
- Homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia
- Mixed dyslipidemia (Fredrickson Type Ia and Ib)
- Hypertriglyceridaemia (Fredrickson Type IV)
- Dysbetalipoproteinaemia (Fredrickson Type III)
- Coronary artery disease with elevated LDL-cholesterol level
- Hypercholesterolemia associated with diabetes mellitus or renal transplantation

- HMG-CoA reductase inhibition
- Lowering plasma cholesterol and lipoprotein levels
- Increases hepatic LDL receptors for enhanced uptake and catabolism of LDL
