Indications

Interaction
- Increased risk of myopathy with concurrent administration of cyclosporine, fibric acid derivatives, niacin, and erythromycin
Contraindications
- Should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to any component of this medication
- Contraindicated in active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases

Precautions warnings
- Liver function tests should be performed before initiation of treatment and periodically thereafter

Special populations
- Plasma concentrations are higher in healthy elderly subjects than in young adults
- Pharmacokinetic data in the pediatric population are not available
- No clinically significant difference in LDL-C reduction between men and women
Overdose effects
- Specific treatment is not available for atorvastatin overdose
- Liver function tests should be performed and serum CK levels should be monitored
