Indications
- Treatment of allergic diseases such as hay fever
- Treatment of urticaria
- Treatment of atopic dermatitis
- Treatment of motion sickness
- Treatment of certain forms of parkinsonism
- Management of insomnia
Pharmacology
- Anti-histaminic (H1-receptor) properties
- Anti-emetic properties
- Anti-vertigo properties
- Sedative and hypnotic properties
- Blocking effects of histamine on H1 receptor sites
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: 25 mg to 50 mg 3 to 4 times daily
- Children (10 years or over) dosage: 25 mg 3 or 4 times daily
- Children under 2 years dosage: 2.5 mL every 4 to 6 hours
- Children 2 to under 6 years dosage: 5 mL every 4 to 6 hours
- Adults and children≥12 years dosage: 10-20 mL every 4 to 6 hours
- Sleep aid dosage: 50 mg at bedtime
Interaction
- Interactions with tricyclic antidepressants
- Interactions with monoamine oxidase inhibitor types
- Increased CNS effect with alcohol and other CNS depressant drugs
Contraindications
- Contraindicated for premature or newborn infants
- Contraindicated for patients with hypersensitivity to any component
- Contraindicated for patients with asthma attack
- Contraindicated for patients with narrow angle glaucoma
- Contraindicated for patients with prostatic hypertrophy

Overdose Effects
- Reactions may vary from CNS depression to stimulation
- Stimulation particularly likely in children
- Atropine-like signs such as dry mouth, dilated pupils, flushing may occur
