Indications
- Symptomatic relief of anxiety and tension
- Management of pruritus due to allergic conditions
- Sedative for premedication and following general anesthesia
Pharmacology
- Anxiolytic antihistamine
- H1 receptor antagonist
- Not a cortical depressant
- Skeletal muscle relaxation
- Bronchodilator activity
- Antihistaminic and analgesic effects
- Antiemetic effect
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage of 50-100 mg 4 times daily for anxiety and tension relief
- Child dosage (>6 years) of 50-100 mg daily in divided doses
- Child dosage (<6 years) of 50 mg daily in divided doses
- Adult dosage of 25 mg 3 to 4 times daily for pruritus due to allergic conditions
Interaction
- Potentiation of Meperidine and barbiturates
- No interference with the action of digitalis
- Avoidance of concurrent use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Hydroxyzine or any of its ingredients
