Usability Features

Dosage and Administration
- Adults: 50-100 mg 4 times daily for symptomatic relief of anxiety and tension
- Children (>6 years): 50-100 mg (5-10 teaspoonfuls) daily in divided doses
- Children (<6 years): 50 mg (5 teaspoonfuls) daily in divided doses for symptomatic relief of anxiety and tension
- Adults: 25 mg 3 to 4 times daily for pruritus due to allergic conditions
- Children (6 years): 50-100 mg (5-10 teaspoonfuls) daily in divided doses
- Children (<6 years): 50 mg (5 teaspoonfuls) daily in divided doses for pruritus due to allergic conditions
- Adults: 50-100 mg as a sedative (premedication and following general anesthesia)
- Children: 0.6 mg/kg of body weight as a sedative (premedication and following general anesthesia)
Interaction
- Potentiates Meperidine and barbiturates
- Not affected by Atropine and other belladonna alkaloids
- Does not interfere with the action of digitalis
- Should be avoided with monoamine oxidase inhibitors
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Hydroxyzine or any of its ingredients
Side Effects
- Drowsiness

- Psychomotor impairment
- Antimuscarinic effects like urinary retention, dry mouth, blurred vision, gastrointestinal disturbances
- Rare side-effects such as hypotension, palpitation, arrhythmias, extrapyramidal effects, dizziness, confusion, depression, sleep disturbances, tremor, convulsions, hypersensitivity reactions, blood disorders, liver dysfunction, angle-closure glaucoma
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Contraindicated in early pregnancy
- Unknown excretion in human milk, caution advised for nursing mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Potentiating action with central nervous system depressants such as narcotics, non-narcotic analgesics, and barbiturates
- Patients should be warned of potential drowsiness and cautioned against driving or operating machinery
- Simultaneous use of other CNS depressant drugs should be avoided
- Reduced dosage recommended in renal impairment and elderly patients

- Start with half the recommended dose in the elderly due to prolonged action

- Manifestations include hypersedation
