Dosage and Administration

  • Children (<6 years): 50 mg (5 teaspoonfuls) daily in divided doses for symptomatic relief of anxiety and tension
  • Adults: 25 mg 3 to 4 times daily for pruritus due to allergic conditions
  • Children (6 years): 50-100 mg (5-10 teaspoonfuls) daily in divided doses
  • Children (<6 years): 50 mg (5 teaspoonfuls) daily in divided doses for pruritus due to allergic conditions
  • Adults: 50-100 mg as a sedative (premedication and following general anesthesia)
  • Children: 0.6 mg/kg of body weight as a sedative (premedication and following general anesthesia)

Interaction

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Contraindicated in early pregnancy

  • Potentiating action with central nervous system depressants such as narcotics, non-narcotic analgesics, and barbiturates
  • Patients should be warned of potential drowsiness and cautioned against driving or operating machinery

  • Reduced dosage recommended in renal impairment and elderly patients
