Indications
- Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal & perennial allergic rhinitis
- Treatment of uncomplicated skin manifestations of chronic idiopathic urticaria
- Treatment of allergen induced asthma
Pharmacology
- Potent H1 receptor antagonist without significant anticholinergic and antiserotonic effects
- Inhibits histamine-mediated allergic reaction
- Reduces migration of inflammatory cells and release of mediators
- Peak plasma concentration of 257 mcg/L within one hour of administration
- Plasma half-life of approximately 11 hours
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage form for adults, children 6 years and older, children 2-6 years, and children 6 months to 2 years
- Injectable dosage form for adults, adolescents 12 years of age and older, children 6 to 11 years of age, and children 6 months to 5 years of age
- Intravenous administration only
- Not recommended in pediatric patients less than 6 years of age with impaired renal or hepatic function
Interaction
- No clinically significant drug interactions with Theophylline, Azithromycin, Pseudoephedrine, Ketoconazole, Erythromycin, or other drugs
Contraindications
- History of hypersensitivity to Cetirizine or hydroxyzine

Use in Special Populations
- Reduced clearance in patients with mild to moderate hepatic and renal impairment
- Safety demonstrated in pediatric patients aged 6 months to 5 years
- Reduced clearance in elderly patients proportional to decrease in creatinine clearance
