Indications
- Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis
- Relief of symptoms associated with perennial allergic rhinitis
- Treatment of uncomplicated skin manifestations of chronic idiopathic urticaria
- Treatment of allergen induced asthma
Pharmacology
- Potent H1 receptor antagonist
- No significant anticholinergic and antiserotonic effects
- Inhibition of histamine-mediated early phase of allergic reaction
- Reduction of inflammatory cell migration and release of mediators
- Peak plasma concentration of 257 mcg/L within one hour of administration
- Plasma half-life of approximately 11 hours
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage of 1 tablet or 2 teaspoonfuls daily
- Children 2-6 years dosage of 1 teaspoonful once daily
- Children 6 months to 2 years dosage of 1/2 teaspoonful once daily
- Recommended injectable dosage for adults and adolescents 12 years of age and older
Interaction
- No clinically significant drug interactions with Theophylline
- No clinically significant drug interactions with Azithromycin
- No clinically significant drug interactions with Pseudoephedrine
- No clinically significant drug interactions with Ketoconazole
- No clinically significant drug interactions with Erythromycin
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with history of hypersensitivity to Cetirizine or hydroxyzine
Side Effects
- Most common side effect on Opzin is somnolence

- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
- Caution exercised when administered to a nursing woman
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution should be exercised when driving or operating heavy machinery
Use in Special Populations
- Reduced clearance and increased AUC in patients with mild to moderate hepatic and renal impairment
- Demonstrated safety in pediatric patients aged 6 months to 5 years
- Reduced clearance in elderly patients
