Indications
- Relief of seasonal allergic rhinitis symptoms
- Relief of perennial allergic rhinitis symptoms
- Treatment of skin manifestations of chronic idiopathic urticaria
- Treatment of allergen-induced asthma
Pharmacology
- Potent H1 receptor antagonist
- No significant anticholinergic effects
- No significant antiserotonic effects
- Inhibition of histamine-mediated early phase of allergic reaction
- Reduction of inflammatory cell migration
- Reduction of mediators release associated with late phase of allergic reaction
- Peak plasma concentration of 257 mcg/L (10 mg dose)
- Peak plasma concentration of 980 mcg/L in children (10 mg dose)
- Peak blood levels reached between 30 & 60 minutes after administration
- Plasma half-life of approximately 11 hours
- Renal clearance of 30 ml/minute
- Excretion half-life of approximately 9 hours
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: 1 tablet or 2 teaspoonfuls daily
- Children 6 years and older: 1 teaspoonful twice daily
- Children 2-6 years: 1 teaspoonful once daily or 1/2 teaspoonful twice daily
- Children 6 months to 2 years: 1/2 teaspoonful once daily
- Maximum dose for children 12-23 months: 1/2 teaspoonful every 12 hours
- Injectable form for intravenous administration only
- Adult dosage: 10 mg administered by intravenous injection
- Adolescents dosage: 5 mg or 10 mg depending on symptom severity administered by intravenous injection
- Children dosage: 2.5 mg administered by intravenous injection
Interaction
- No clinically significant drug interactions with Theophylline
- No clinically significant drug interactions with Azithromycin
- No clinically significant drug interactions with Pseudoephedrine
- No clinically significant drug interactions with Ketoconazole
- No clinically significant drug interactions with Erythromycin
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Cetirizine
- Hypersensitivity to hydroxyzine
