Indications
- Seasonal and Perennial Allergic Rhinitis
- Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria
Pharmacology
- Long-acting
- Selective H1-histamine receptor antagonist
- Rapid absorption
- Extensive first-pass metabolism
- Conversion to active acid metabolite
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet for Adults: 10 mg (once daily)
- Tablet for Children (6-12 years): 5 mg (once daily)
- Syrup for Children (2-5 years): 2.5 ml (once daily, up to 5 ml in severe cases)
- Syrup for Children (6-12 years): 5 ml (once daily, up to 10 ml in severe cases)
- May be taken with or without food
Interaction
- Increased plasma level and prolonged QTc interval with ketoconazole or erythromycin
- No interaction with theophylline, warfarin, cimetidine, diazepam, or alcohol
- Enhanced sedation effect of alcohol and diazepam
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Ebastine or any of its ingredients
Side Effects
- Common: headache, dry mouth, drowsiness
- Less common: abdominal pain, dyspepsia, nausea, insomnia
Overdose Effects
- No clinically meaningful signs or symptoms observed up to 100 mg once daily
- No specific antidote for Pvast
- Recommendations: gastric lavage, monitoring of vital functions including ECG, symptomatic treatment
