Indications
- Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis
- Relief of symptoms associated with chronic idiopathic urticaria

Pharmacology
- H1 histamine receptor mediation
- Degranulation of mast cells and basophils
- Release of histamine and inflammatory mediators
- Fexofenadine as an inverse agonist of the H1 receptor
- Selective affinity for H1 receptors
- No evidence of antidopaminergic, antiserotonergic, anticholinergic, sedative, or adrenergic blocking activity
- Does not cross the blood-brain barrier
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: 60 mg twice daily or 120 mg once daily or 180 mg once daily
- Children 6-11 years: 30 mg twice daily or 60 mg once daily
- Children 2-11 years: 30 mg or 5 ml suspension twice daily
- Nocturnal dosing recommended for renal impairment
- Dosage adjusted for impaired renal function
- Dosage related to age and severity of condition
Interaction
- Potential interaction with erythromycin or ketoconazole
- Increased plasma level with coadministration of specific medicinal products
- No interaction with omeprazole
- Reduction in bioavailability with antacids
- Recommended 2-hour interval between Axodin and antacids
