Indications
- Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis
- Relief of symptoms associated with perennial allergic rhinitis

Pharmacology
- H1 histamine receptor mediated hypersensitivity and allergic reactions
- Mast cell and basophil degranulation
- Release of histamine and inflammatory mediators
- Binding and activation of H1 receptors by histamine
- Stabilization of inactive form of H1 receptor by fexofenadine
- Selective affinity for H1 receptors
Dosage & Administration
- 60 mg tablet twice daily for adults and children 12 years and older
- 120 mg tablet once daily for adults and children 12 years and older
- 180 mg tablet once daily for adults and children 12 years and older
- 30 mg tablet twice daily for children 6 to 11 years
- 60 mg tablet once daily in case of impaired renal function for children 6 to 11 years
- 15 mg suspension twice daily for children 6 months to less than 2 years
Interaction
- No hepatic biotransformation and hepatic interaction
- 2-3 times increase in fexofenadine level with erythromycin or ketoconazole coadministration
- No interaction between fexofenadine and omeprazole
- Reduction in bioavailability with antacid containing aluminium and magnesium hydroxide
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine Hydrochloride or its ingredients
Side Effects
- Common: headache, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, fatigue
- Immune system disorders: hypersensitivity reactions
- Psychiatric disorders: insomnia, nervousness, sleep disorders, nightmares
- Cardiac disorders: tachycardia, palpitations
- Gastrointestinal disorders: diarrhea, rash, urticaria, pruritus
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Limited data on use in pregnant women
- No human data on the effect on fertility
- Not recommended for breastfeeding mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Limited data in older people, renally or hepatically impaired patients
- Administration with care in special groups
- History of or ongoing cardiovascular disease warning
- Unlikely effect on ability to drive or use machines
Use in Special Populations
- Altered pharmacokinetics in individuals with renal impairment
- Moderate to severe hepatic disease does not substantially affect pharmacokinetics
- Similar adverse events in elderly patients
Overdose Effects
- Reported effects: dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, dry mouth
- No clinically significant adverse reactions up to 800 mg single doses
