Indications
- Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis in adults and children 12 years of age and over
- Relief of symptoms associated with chronic idiopathic urticaria in adults and children 12 years of age and over

Pharmacology
- Fexofenadine is an inverse agonist of the H1 receptor
- Potent and selective affinity for H1 receptors
- No evidence of carrying antidopaminergic, antiserotonergic, anticholinergic, sedative, or adrenergic blocking activity
- Does not cross the blood-brain barrier
Dosage & Administration
- Adults - 60 mg twice daily or 120 mg once daily or 180 mg once daily
- Children (6 to 11 years) - 30 mg twice daily or 60 mg once daily
- Children (2 to 11 years) - 30 mg or 5 ml twice daily
Interaction
- No hepatic biotransformation
- Coadministration with erythromycin or ketoconazole may increase fexofenadine level in plasma
- No interaction with omeprazole observed
- Antacids containing aluminium and magnesium hydroxide may reduce bioavailability if administered 15 minutes prior to Xonad
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine Hydrochloride or any of its ingredients

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Limited animal studies show no direct or indirect harmful effects
Precautions & Warnings
- Limited data for older people and renally or hepatically impaired patients
- Careful administration in special groups
- Caution in patients with a history of or ongoing cardiovascular disease
- Unlikely to produce significant effects on the ability to drive or use machines
- Advisable to check individual response before performing complicated tasks
Use in Special Populations
- Renal impairment alters pharmacokinetics, 60 mg once daily recommended as starting dose
- Moderate to severe hepatic disease does not substantially affect pharmacokinetics
- Adverse events similar in elderly patients but altered pharmacokinetics in individuals over 65 years of age
Overdose Effects
- Dizziness
- Drowsiness
- Fatigue
- Dry mouth
- No clinically significant adverse reactions reported with doses up to 800 mg
- Symptomatic and supportive treatment recommended
- Haemodialysis does not effectively remove Xonad from blood
