Description

Dosage and administration

  • Adults and children 12 years and older: 60 mg twice daily or 120 mg once daily or 180 mg once daily (tablets)
  • Adults and children 12 years and older: 60 mg twice daily or 120 mg once daily or 180 mg once daily (in case of impaired renal function)
  • Children from 6 to 11 years: 30 mg twice daily or 60 mg once daily (tablets)
  • Children from 2 to 11 years: 30 mg or 5 ml twice daily (suspension)
  • Adults and children 12 years and older: 60 mg twice daily or 120 mg once daily or 180 mg once daily (urticaria)
  • Children from 6 months to less than 2 years: 15 mg or 2.5 ml twice daily (urticaria)
  • Children from 6 months to less than 2 years: 15 mg or 2.5 ml once daily (urticaria, in case of impaired renal function)

Interaction

  • No interaction between fexofenadine and omeprazole observed
  • Coadministration with erythromycin or ketoconazole results in a 2-3 times increase in the level of fexofenadine in plasma
  • Administration of antacids containing aluminium and magnesium hydroxide 15 minutes prior to Fesler causes a reduction in bioavailability

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine Hydrochloride or any of its ingredients

Side effects

  • Common undesirable effects reported in clinical trials include headache, drowsiness, dizziness, and nausea
  • Post-marketing surveillance reports hypersensitivity reactions, insomnia, tachycardia, diarrhea, rash, and pruritus

Special precautions and warnings

  • Administer with care in older people and renally or hepatically impaired patients
  • Patients with a history of or ongoing cardiovascular disease should be warned about potential adverse reactions such as tachycardia and palpitations
  • Unlikely to produce an effect on the ability to drive or use machines

Special populations

  • Dose of 60 mg once daily recommended as the starting dose in patients with decreased renal function
  • Moderate to severe hepatic disease does not substantially affect the pharmacokinetics of fexofenadine
  • Similar adverse events observed in patients over 65 years of age compared to those under 65 years

Overdose effects

  • Reported effects of overdose include dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, and dry mouth
  • Maximum tolerated dose not established, and haemodialysis does not effectively remove Fesler from blood

Pharmacology

  • Fexofenadine is considered an 'inverse agonist' of the H1 receptor
  • Has a potent and selective affinity for H1 receptors
  • No evidence of antidopaminergic, antiserotonergic, anticholinergic, sedative, or adrenergic blocking activity
  • Unlikely to cause significant CNS effects as it does not cross the blood-brain barrier

Pregnancy and lactation

  • Not recommended for use during pregnancy unless clearly necessary
  • Not recommended for mothers breast-feeding their babies
  • No human data on the effect of Fexofenadine hydrochloride on fertility are available
