Indications

Pharmacology
- Responsible for mediating hypersensitivity and allergic reactions
- Binds to and stabilizes the inactive form of the H1 receptor
- Potent and selective affinity for H1 receptors
- No evidence of antidopaminergic, antiserotonergic, anticholinergic, sedative, or adrenergic blocking activity
- Unlikely to cause significant CNS effects
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dosage for adult and children 12 years and older
- Recommended dosage for children from 6 to 11 years
- Recommended dosage for children from 2 to 11 years
- Different dosages for allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria
- Dosage adjustments for impaired renal function
Interaction
- No hepatic biotransformation
- Possible interaction with erythromycin or ketoconazole
- No interaction with omeprazole
- Reduction in bioavailability when co-administered with antacids containing aluminium and magnesium hydroxide
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine Hydrochloride or any of its ingredients
Side Effects
- Undesirable effects reported in clinical trials
- Undesirable effects reported in post-marketing surveillance
- Range of common to very rare undesirable effects
- Incidence similar to that observed with placebo
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Limited data on use in pregnant women
- Limited animal studies indicating no direct or indirect harmful effects
- Not recommended for mothers breastfeeding their babies
- No human data on the effect on fertility
Precautions & Warnings
- Limited data in older people and renally or hepatically impaired patients
- Careful administration in these special groups
- Patients with a history of or ongoing cardiovascular disease should be warned
- Unlikely to produce an effect on the ability to drive or use machines
- Objective tests showing no significant effects on central nervous system function
Use in Special Populations
- Altered pharmacokinetics in individuals with renal impairment
- Moderate to severe hepatic disease does not affect the pharmacokinetics substantially
- Adverse events similarity in elderly patients compared to those under 65 years of age
- Altered pharmacokinetics in individuals over 65 years of age

- Single doses and duration of administration up to certain levels without development of clinically significant adverse reactions
