Indications
- Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis
- Relief of symptoms associated with chronic idiopathic urticaria

Pharmacology
- H1 histamine receptor mediates hypersensitivity and allergic reactions
- Fexofenadine acts as an 'inverse agonist' of the H1 receptor
- Selective affinity for H1 receptors
- No evidence of antidopaminergic, antiserotonergic, anticholinergic, sedative, or adrenergic blocking activity
- Does not cross the blood-brain barrier
Dosage & Administration
- Different dosages for adults and children
- Dosage adjustments based on impaired renal function
- Tablet options: 60 mg twice daily, 120 mg once daily, 180 mg once daily
- Suspension options for children
Interaction
- Coadministration with erythromycin or ketoconazole can increase fexofenadine level in plasma
- No interaction with omeprazole observed
- Antacids containing aluminium and magnesium hydroxide can reduce bioavailability
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine Hydrochloride or any of its ingredients
Side Effects
- Common: headache, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, fatigue
- Rare: tachycardia, palpitations, diarrhea, rash, urticaria, pruritus
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Limited data on use during pregnancy
- Not recommended for lactating mothers
- No human data on effect on fertility
Precautions & Warnings
- Limited data in older people and renally or hepatically impaired patients
- Caution in patients with history of or ongoing cardiovascular disease
Use in Special Populations
- Altered pharmacokinetics in individuals with renal impairment
- No substantial effect on pharmacokinetics in moderate to severe hepatic disease
- Adverse events in elderly patients similar to those under 65 years
Overdose Effects
- Reported effects: dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, dry mouth
