Description
- Antihistamine for allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria
- Blocks histamine during allergic reactions
- Relieves symptoms such as runny nose, itching eyes/nose, sneezing, hives, and itching
Dosage
- 60 mg twice daily
- 120 mg once daily
- 180 mg once daily
Age Group
- Adults
- Children 12 years and older
- Children 6 to 11 years
- Children 6 months to less than 2 years
Renal Function Dosage
- In case of impaired renal function: 60 mg once daily
- 30 mg once daily
- 15 mg once daily

Pharmacology
- H1 histamine receptor antagonist
- Blocks allergen-induced release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators
- Prevents activation of H1 receptors and release of pro-inflammatory cytokines
- Potent and selective affinity for H1 receptors
Mode of Action
- Binds to and stabilizes the inactive form of the H1 receptor
- Prevents activation and downstream effects of histamine binding
Interaction
- No hepatic biotransformation
- Increases in plasma level with erythromycin or ketoconazole coadministration
- No interaction with omeprazole
- Reduction in bioavailability with antacids containing aluminium and magnesium hydroxide
- Advisable to leave 2 hours between administration and antacids
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine Hydrochloride or any of its ingredients

- Altered pharmacokinetics in renal impairment
- Increased bioavailability in individuals over 65 years of age

- Dry mouth
- No established maximum tolerated dose
- Symptomatic and supportive treatment recommended
- Haemodialysis does not effectively remove Ritch from blood
