Indications
- Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis
- Relief of symptoms associated with chronic idiopathic urticaria

Pharmacology
- H1 histamine receptor mediation of hypersensitivity and allergic reactions
- Release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators
- Fexofenadine as an 'inverse agonist' of the H1 receptor
- Absence of antidopaminergic, antiserotonergic, anticholinergic, sedative, or adrenergic blocking activity
- Lack of crossing the blood-brain barrier to avoid significant CNS effects
Dosage & Administration
- Different dosage options for adults and children based on age and renal function
- Tablet and suspension forms for different age groups and impaired renal function
- Specific dosing instructions for allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria
Interaction
- Absence of hepatic biotransformation and related interactions with other medicinal products
- Increased level of fexofenadine in plasma with erythromycin or ketoconazole coadministration
- No interaction observed between fexofenadine and omeprazole
- Reduction in bioavailability when coadministered with antacids containing aluminium and magnesium hydroxide
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine Hydrochloride or any of its ingredients
Side Effects
- Reported undesirable effects including headache, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, and fatigue
- Potential hypersensitivity reactions with manifestations such as angioedema, chest tightness, and dyspnoea
- Possible cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and skin/subcutaneous tissue disorders
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Limited data on use in pregnant women, caution advised unless clearly necessary
- Potential transfer into human breast milk, not recommended for nursing mothers
- No data on the effect on fertility available, no effect on fertility observed in mice
Precautions & Warnings
- Limited data in older people and renally or hepatically impaired patients
- Caution advised for patients with a history of or ongoing cardiovascular disease
- Unlikelihood of producing significant effects on the ability to drive or use machines based on the pharmacodynamic profile
Use in Special Populations
- Altered pharmacokinetics in individuals with renal impairment and those over 65 years of age
- No substantial effect on pharmacokinetics in individuals with moderate to severe hepatic disease
Overdose Effects
- Reported dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, and dry mouth with overdose
- Administered single doses up to 800 mg without clinically significant adverse reactions
- Lack of established maximum tolerated dose, standard measures and symptomatic treatment recommended
