Indications
- Perennial allergic rhinitis
- Seasonal allergic rhinitis
- Chronic idiopathic urticaria
Pharmacology
- Contains Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride
- Highly effective nonsedating antihistamine
- Potent antiallergic properties
- Two-fold higher affinity for H1 receptors than cetirizine
- Rapid and long-acting action
- Once-a-day administration
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dose for adults and children 12 years and older: 5 mg once daily
- Recommended dose for children 6 to 11 years of age: 2.5 mg once daily
- Recommended dose for children 6 months to 5 years of age: 1.25 mg once daily
- Pediatric use based on efficacy extrapolation from adults
- No sufficient data for geriatric use
- No dosage adjustment in hepatic impairment
- Different dosages for mild, moderate, and severe renal impairment
- Patients with end-stage renal disease or undergoing hemodialysis should not receive Levocetirizine
Interaction
Not known to have any interactions with other drugs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to levocetirizine, cetirizine, or hydroxyzine
- Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance: <10 ml/min)
Side Effects
- Well tolerated, but rare reports of headache, dry mouth, fatigue, and skin rash
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category B
- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
- Not recommended for nursing mothers

- Epileptic patients and patients at risk of convulsions

Overdose Effects
No clinically relevant adverse events reported, symptomatic and supportive treatment recommended in case of overdose
