Indications
- Perennial allergic rhinitis
- Seasonal allergic rhinitis
- Chronic idiopathic urticaria
Pharmacology
- Contains Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride
- Levocetirizine is the active (Levo) isomer of cetirizine
- Highly effective nonsedating antihistamine with potent antiallergic properties
- Two-fold higher affinity for H1 receptors than cetirizine
- Rapid and long-acting action
- Once-a-day administration
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dose for adults and children over 12 years: 5 mg once daily
- Recommended dose for children 6 to 11 years: 2.5 mg once daily
- Recommended dose for children 6 months to 5 years: 1.25 mg once daily
- Pediatric use based on extrapolation of efficacy from adults
- No dosage adjustment required in solely hepatic impairment
- Different doses recommended for various levels of renal impairment
Interaction
- Not known to have any interactions with other drugs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to levocetirizine, cetirizine, or hydroxyzine
- Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance: <10 ml/min)
Side Effects
- Rarely reported side effects including headache, dry mouth, fatigue, and skin rash
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category B
- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
- Not recommended for use by nursing mothers

- Patients at risk of convulsions
- Renal impairment
