Indications
- Treatment of perennial allergic rhinitis
- Treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis
- Treatment of chronic idiopathic urticaria
Pharmacology
- Contains Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride
- Levocetirizine is the active (Levo) isomer of cetirizine
- Highly effective nonsedating antihistamine
- Has potent antiallergic properties
- Two-fold higher affinity for H1 receptors than cetirizine
- Rapid and long-acting action
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dose: 5 mg once daily
- Children 6 to 11 years: 2.5 mg once daily
- Children 6 months to 5 years: 1.25 mg once daily
- Dosage adjustments for pediatric, geriatric, hepatic, and renal impairment
Interaction
- No known interactions with other drugs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to levocetirizine, cetirizine, or hydroxyzine
- Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance: <10 ml/min)
Side Effects
- Well tolerated, rarely reported side effects include headache, dry mouth, fatigue, skin rash
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category B
- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
- Not recommended during lactation due to excretion in breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Epileptic patients and patients at risk of convulsions should take precaution
- Patients with renal impairment
- Pregnancy and lactation precautions
Overdose Effects
- No clinically relevant adverse events reported in case of overdose
- Symptomatic and supportive treatment recommended in the event of overdosage
